Do I need a lawyer to get divorced in Arizona?
No. Arizona allows you to file for divorce (dissolution of marriage) on your own, and a certified legal document preparer can prepare every required document — the petition, summons, and final decree paperwork — based on your decisions.
Is Arizona a community property state?
Yes. In general, property and debts acquired during the marriage belong to both spouses and are divided equitably in a divorce, while property owned before the marriage or received by gift or inheritance usually remains separate.
How long does a divorce take in Arizona?
At minimum about two months: Arizona has a 60-day waiting period after the petition is served before a divorce can be finalized. Uncontested divorces where both spouses agree are usually done shortly after that; contested cases take longer.
